Electrical Component Location Overview

  1. Transmission Control Module -J217-
    • Component location, refer to Fig 3.
    • Can be checked in "Guided Fault Finding" using the vehicle diagnostic tester.
  2. Diagnostic Connection
    • Component location, refer to Fig 9.
  3. Shift Lock Solenoid -N110-
    • Installed location: Is integrated permanently inside the selector mechanism and cannot be replaced separately.
    • Can be checked in "Guided Fault Finding" using the vehicle diagnostic tester.
  4. Multifunction Transmission Range Switch -F125-
  5. Valve Body
    • Component location, refer to Fig 5.
    • The components can be checked in "Guided Fault Finding" using the vehicle diagnostic tester.
    • Allocation,
  6. Sensor Wiring Harness
    • With the transmission fluid temperature sensor.
    • Component location, refer to Fig 6.
    • Removing and installing, refer to SENSOR WIRING HARNESS .
    • Allocation
  7. Solenoid Valve Wiring Harness
  8. Selector Mechanism Cover with Selector Lever Scale Illumination Bulb -L101-
    • The selector lever scale illumination bulb is integrated inside the cover.
    • Removing and installing, refer to SELECTOR LEVER HANDLE .
  9. Selector Lever Sensor System Control Module -J587- with Selector Lever -E313-, Tiptronic Switch -F189- and Selector Lever Park Position Lock Switch -F319-
    • Component location: The components are permanently integrated in the selector mechanism circuit board and cannot be replaced separately.
    • The components can be checked in "Guided Fault Finding" using the vehicle diagnostic tester.
    • The selector mechanism must be replaced if a component is faulty. Refer to one of the following:

      SELECTOR MECHANISM WITH HOUSING .

      SELECTOR MECHANISM WITHOUT HOUSING .

  10. Transmission Input Speed Sensor -G182-
  11. Transmission Output Speed Sensor -G195-
  12. Transmission Range Display -Y6-
    • Component location: The transmission range display -arrow- is integrated inside the instrument cluster.
    • Can only be replaced together with the instrument cluster; refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  13. Kick Down Switch -F8-
    • Not a separate component, assumes the function of the accelerator pedal position sensor and accelerator pedal position sensor 2. Both are integrated in the accelerator pedal module, installed location, refer to Fig 10.
    • Signal received in the Engine Control Module (ECM).
    • Signal transmitted from the ECM to the Transmission Control Module (TCM) via the CAN bus.
    • Can be checked in "Guided Fault Finding" using the vehicle diagnostic tester.
  14. Brake Lamp Switch -F-
    • Component location, refer to Fig 11.
    • Can be checked in "Guided Fault Finding" using the vehicle diagnostic tester.

Installed location: The TCM -A- is located in the front of the engine compartment on the left side next to the battery.

Removing and installing: 

-- Unclip the TCM -A- from the bracket and remove it upward.

-- Disconnect the connector from the TCM.

Install in the reverse order of removal.

Installed location: The multifunction switch is located on the upper side of the transmission.

Installed location: The valve body is bolted to the underside of the transmission housing and is covered by the transmission pan.

The solenoid valve 1 -N88-, solenoid valve 2 -N89-, solenoid valve 3 -N90-, solenoid valve 4 -N91-, solenoid valve 5 -N92-, solenoid valve 6 -N93-, solenoid valve 9 -N282- and solenoid valve 10 -N283- are attached to the valve body.

Installed location: The wiring harness is secured to valve body in the transmission.

Installed location: The wiring harness is secured to the valve body in the transmission.

Installed location: Inside the transmission housing above the valve body.

Installed location: The data link connection -arrow- is located under the driver side storage compartment on the left side.

A programmed value from the accelerator pedal position sensor -G79- and accelerator pedal position sensor 2 -G185- (integrated in the accelerator pedal module) are saved in the ECM as a kick down signal.

Accelerator pedal module removing and installing. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

Installed location: The brake lamp switch -A- is located on the master cylinder.

Removing and installing, refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
