RNS 510 Navigation Radio Software Update for Various Functionality Concerns

RNS 510 Navigation Radio system may experience some or all of the following concerns:

Tip:

For faster operation of the RNS 510, deactivate the touch tone sound. This setting can be found by pressing the "SETUP" button and then selecting Display > Touch Screen Tone.

No audio when listening to satellite radio
No traffic service available in Utah
Volume fluctuates after phone call is made through Bluetooth®
SiriusXM™ TravelLink™ sporadically not available

Tip:

SiriusXM™ TravelLink™ is not currently offered in Canada at time of publishing.

Production Solution

Gradual introduction of software 3690.

Service

Connect Midtronics InCharge 940 (INC 940) tester/charger to vehicle's battery.
Verify that the touch screen navigation unit has not been updated.

Verify RNS 510 Software Level

Switch RNS 510 unit ON.
Press and hold the Setup key for 10 seconds.
Press Version Info.
Verify software level is 3680.

Tip

If you are unable to retrieve version information, it is likely you have an older RNS510 that is not compatible with this software level. Please connect a scan tool to determine software level.

NOTE: If software level is found to be at any other level than 3680, this Technical Bulletin DOES NOT apply. Please see technical bulletin 2026563 "RNS 510 Navigation Radio Overview" for more information.

Software Update Procedure

Tip:

During the update programming process, the screen will go blank several times, this is considered normal.

If you receive an error due to "Amp clamp State", remove the key. Kessy equipped vehicles will need to have the key(s) moved away from the vehicle.

The key must be removed from the ignition with no disc in the radio.
Switch RNS 510 ON.
Insert programming CD Part No.RNS510FLSH3690 into the radio.
This screen will display showing that the disc has loaded properly.

Tip:

If a CD error is displayed, and remains more than 5 seconds, remove the CD and reinstall.
Touch "OK" to begin the update.
Touch "OK" to accept.
Tip:

Information stored on hard drive and the presets will not be lost as part of this update.

This screen will be shown while the update is taking place.

NOTE: DO NOT cancel update until complete.
DO NOT Start engine.

Disregard timer which appears on lower right side of navigation screen.

Tip:

To restart the software flash for extended delays (+10 minutes), press Eject+Star+Guide buttons at the same time.

The system has loaded the update properly.
Remove the CD to reboot the navigation unit.
