Selector Lever Handle

NOTE:

There are different handles depending on the model.

The handle is removed together with the shift cover.

There is the possibility that the button can be pressed into the handle. Never install the handle when the button is pressed in.

Removing 

-- Move the selector lever into the "D" position.

Handle with the Button on the Side

-- Pull the button out of the handle just far enough until there is a small gap between the handle and the button. The button locks when released.

-- Prevent the button from being pressed in using either a cable tie or wire.

Handle with the Button in the Front

It is not necessary to pull out the button manually. The button locks in the installed position -arrow- . when the handle is removed.

Handle and Sleeve

-- Remove the cover.

-- Disconnect the connector from the selector cover.

-- Pull the sleeve upward in the -direction of the arrow- and unlock the handle.

Handle and Clamp

-- Cut the clamp -arrow- under the boot with side cutters.

Continuation for All

-- Remove the handle from the selector lever without pushing the button.

NOTE:

Do not push the button once the handle has been removed otherwise it will not be possible to install the handle again.

Installing 

-- Install in the reverse order of removal. Note the following:

If the button was pushed in by mistake, the installed position can be set again.

-- Move the button in the installed position. Refer to BUTTON IN HANDLE, MOVING INTO INSTALLATION POSITION .

NOTE:

A new handle is delivered with an assembly aid. Pull out the assembly aid just prior to installation.

Handle and Sleeve 

-- Install the handle all the way onto the selector lever and lock it.

-- Push the sleeve down to lock it.

Only for Handles with Clamps: 

-- Install the handle with a new clamp.

-- Tighten the clamp using the hose clamp pliers V.A.G 1275.

-- Press the button after installing it.

NOTE:

If the button stays in the handle after being pressed, this means it was installed incorrectly. If this happens, remove the handle again and move the button to the installed position again. Refer to BUTTON IN HANDLE, MOVING INTO INSTALLATION POSITION . Then install the handle again.

Further installation is in the reverse order of removal.
