Selector Lever Cable, Adjusting
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm)V.A.G 1331
- The selector mechanism and selector lever cable move easily when shifting.
- The selector lever cable boot is undamaged.
The selector lever cable must always be adjusted if:
- The selector lever cable was removed from the transmission.
- The engine and/or transmission were removed and installed.
- Parts of the subframe were removed and installed.
- The selector lever cable itself or the selector mechanism was removed and installed.
- The engine and/or transmission position changes, for example, were installed free of tension.
Adjusting
-- Move the selector lever into the "P" position.
- The adjustment bolt -2- must be loosened.
-- Move the selector shaft lever -3- into the "P" position (push the lever to the rear).
WARNING:
Make sure the parking lock is latched.
-- From underneath the vehicle, rotate both front wheels in the same direction and at the same time until the parking lock audibly engages.
- The parking lock is engaged when it is not possible to rotate both front wheels in the same direction at the same time.
-- Tap the handle on the selector lever back and forth gently but do not move it out of the "P" position.
This places the selector lever cable core in its optimal position.
-- Tighten the adjustment bolt -2- to 13 Nm.
