CONDITION
01 14 04 February 19, 2014 2028625 Supersedes Technical Bulletin V011327 dated August 13, 2013 to include additional model year and update the software levels, SVM code and part number.
Update Programming ECM to Eliminate DTC 03366 Stored in Brake Electronics Fault Memory
Customers may complain of a Brake Warning Light ON in the instrument cluster.
Tip:
This software update is designed to re-program both the ECM and TCM with new software. The re-programming itself should carry out the updates without technician intervention. Please ensure both ECM and TCM software has been updated after the flash is completed.
The following fault code may be stored in the Brake Electronics Fault Memory:
| DTC | Description |
|---|---|
| 03366 | Brake electronics - (03366) Vacuum Sensor -G608 Implausible Signal |
TECHNICAL BACKGROUND
If vehicle is equipped with an automatic transmission, TCM must be reprogrammed along with the ECM. If vehicle is equipped with a manual transmission, TCM reprogramming is not possible.
This condition occurs due to an incorrect sampling rate between the ECM and the G608 Vacuum Sensor. The symptom as described will store the fault 03366 in the Brake Electronics Fault Memory. This fault will cause the Brake Warning Light to display in the instrument cluster
DO NOT replace any parts for this condition.
The condition as described does not affect vehicle braking performance or operation.
PRODUCTION SOLUTION
Improved ECM software was introduced in production.
SERVICE
Update-Programming Procedure
Tip:
To Update-Programming using SVM, review and follow instructions in Technical Bulletin Instance 2014603 "Software Version Management".
The SVM Process must be completed in its entirety so the database receives the update confirmation response. A warranty claim may not be reimbursed if there is no confirmation response to support the claim.
When using a VAS 6150/5051B or VAS 5052A tester in conjunction with a VAS 5054A wireless transmitter head for a flash procedure, please connect a USB cable between the transmitter head and the tester. Failure to do so may lead to errors during the flash procedure.
VAS tools must only be used with their power adapters plugged in. Under no circumstances should they be used on battery power alone during the programming procedure.
Critical Warning: The Midtronics Battery Charger must be connected to the vehicle battery for the duration of the programming, to ensure the battery state of charge remains above 12.5 volts during the update process. If the battery drops below 12.5 volts, the programming could fail which may result in damage to the control module. Control modules damaged by inadequate voltage will not be covered under the warranty policy. The technician should verify the vehicle voltage prior to starting the update process, and should monitor the voltage for the duration of the update.
- Update the Engine Control Module using the SVM Unit code as listed in the table below:
| Model | Engine | Old Software Part No. | Old Software Version | New Software Part No. | New Software Version (or higher) | SVM Unit Code |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jetta (A6) | 2.0L MPI (CBPA) | All | All | 06G 906 055 AD | 1302 | 3989 |
| All | All | 06G 906 055 AE | 1302 | 3989 |
Tip:
Upon completion of software update, verify Cruise Control function (if originally equipped) is activated via GFF Function Test Plan 01 - Activate/Deactivate Cruise Control System.
- Update the Transmission Control Module using the SVM Unit code as listed in the table below:
| Model | Engine | Old TCM Software Part No. | Old TCM Software Version | New TCM Software Part No. | New TCM Software Version (or higher) | SVM Unit Code |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jetta (A6) | 2.0L MPI (CBPA) | 09G927750LE | 1791 1975 | 09G927750LE | 2330 | 3801 |
| 09G927750LE | 2040 2174 | 09G927750LE | 2329 | 3801 |
The procedure can be found in GFF under Functions/Component Selection, Software Version Management, Adapting Software.
Tip:
Upon completion of software update, verify Cruise Control function (if originally equipped) is activated via GFF Function Test Plan 01 - Activate/Deactivate Cruise Control System.
Keep hands and all objects away from Radiator Fan(s) during Update Process!
Tip:
The SVM Process must be completed in its entirety so the database receives the update confirmation response. A warranty claim may not be reimbursed if there is no confirmation response to support the claim or action is carried out that is not explicitly stated in the Technical Bulletin.
Ensure attached ECM/TCM Tuning Form has been completed and signed by customer as required in SVM Technical Bulletin Instance 2014603 .
