CONDITION

92 15 03  December 8, 2015 2037322  Supersedes Technical Bulletin V921501 dated February 23, 2015 to include an additional note about non-servicable washer level sensor (G33).

Washer Level Sensor

NOTE: This bulletin does not apply to vehicles equipped with non-serviceable washer level sensors (sensor molded directly to the washer fluid reservoir). Refer to ETKA or the repair manual to identify the washer system.

Follow Elsa diagnostic procedures when diagnosing non-servicable washer level sensor (G33).

TECHNICAL BACKGROUND

The sensitivity of the washer solvent level sensor (G33) can be affected by the type, concentration, and the presence of additives in the washer solvent currently in the tank. The operation of the level sensor relies on the composition of the solvent to provide an accurate message on the solvent level. Incorrect concentration and the presence of additives can contaminate the sensor and reduce its sensitivity.

SERVICE

The indicator lamp in the instrument panel for washer fluid remains illuminated and the washer reservoir is full. Validate the washer reservoir is full with the proper washer solvent. Refer to Elsa for proper fluid type and fluid quantities under repair manual, maintenance, fluid capacity table. If the fluid is found to be incorrect, drain the fluid, remove the sensor and clean with cleaner (D-009-401-04) or equivalent. Reinstall the sensor, top off washer reservoir with proper fluid and validate that the indicator lamp in the instrument panel is no longer illuminated.

Non-approved fluids can cause residues to form on the sensor which causes the washer fluid lamp to remain on when reservoir is full. A picture of the sensor in question (G33) and a picture of the approved cleaner (D-009-401-04) are provided below.
