Engine, Installing: Notes

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.

Install in the reverse order of removal. Note the following:

Servicing the Clutch 

-- Make sure the alignment sleeves for the engine to transmission are installed in the cylinder block. Install them if necessary.

-- Make sure there is enough clearance to the engine and transmission mounts and radiator when installing the engine/transmission subassembly.

-- Adjust the engine and transmission mounts if necessary. Refer to .

NOTE:

Engine and transmission mount tightening specifications, refer to .

Electrical connections and routings, refer to Wiring .

With a Manual Transmission 

-- Install the clutch hydraulic line. Refer to [For transmission(s) 02Q] Removal and Installation or [For transmission(s) 02E] Removal and Installation .

-- Install the transmission shift mechanism and adjust it, if necessary. Refer to [For transmission(s) 02Q] Removal and Installation or [For transmission(s) 02E] Removal and Installation .

With a DSG® 

-- Install the transmission selector lever cable and adjust it, if necessary. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Continuation for All 

The additional numbered steps must be followed to ensure the particulate filter with the NOx reduction catalytic converter is installed correctly.

NOTE:

Make sure the particulate filter is not under stress when installed.

Always replace self-locking nuts, seals, gaskets and clamps.

CAUTION:

The coupling elements between the particulate filter and NOx reduction catalytic converter can be damaged. When removing and installing:

  • Do not bend the coupling element more than 10°.
  • Do not stretch the coupling element.
  • Do not damage the wire mesh on the coupling element.
  • Secure the coupling element from over bending using the Transportation Lock T10404.

-- Install the particulate filter with NOx reduction catalytic converter and the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) filter. Refer to PARTICULATE FILTER WITH NOX REDUCTION CATALYTIC CONVERTER .

-- Install the drive axles to the transmission. Refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Install the right drive axle heat shield and bolts -arrows-. Refer to Specifications .

-- Install the lock carrier. Refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Secure the refrigerant lines to the Air Conditioning (A/C) compressor and condenser without tension. Refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Charge the A/C system. Refer to Description and Operation .

-- Install the battery tray and battery. Refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Observe the notes after connecting the battery. Refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Fill with coolant. Refer to DRAINING AND FILLING .

-- Fill the fuel system. Refer to FUEL SYSTEM, FILLING AND BLEEDING .

-- Check the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memories of all control modules and erase all DTC entries which may have occurred during the reassembly. Refer to "Vehicle Self-Diagnosis" in the vehicle diagnostic tester.

-- Check the headlamp adjustment and adjust if necessary. Refer to Diagnosis and Testing .
