Selector Mechanism, Checking

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.

Do not operate the starter when the selector lever is in the "R", "D" and "S" positions.

The starter can be actuated only when the button is not actuated when the selector lever is in the "P" and "N" positions.

If the selector lever is in the "N" position at speeds greater than 5 km/h, the shift lock solenoid must not engage and block the selector lever. The selector lever can be moved into a another gear.

For speeds below 5 km/h (almost a stand still) and shifting into selector lever position "N", the shift lock solenoid must only engage after approximately 1 second. The selector lever can be moved out of "N" only when the brake pedal is pressed.

Selector Lever in "P" and the Ignition Turned On:

Selector lever is locked and cannot be shifted out of the "P" position with the button pressed. The shift lock solenoid blocks the selector lever.

The shift lock solenoid releases the selector lever. It is now possible to shift into a gear. Slowly move the selector lever slowly from "P" through "S" ; while doing this, check whether the display for the selector lever position in the instrument panel insert matches the actual selector lever position.

Selector Lever in "N" and Ignition Turned On:

Selector lever is locked and cannot be shifted out of the "P" position with the button pressed. The shift lock solenoid blocks the selector lever.

The shift lock solenoid releases the selector lever. It is now possible to shift into a gear.

Selector Level in the "Tiptronic" Position:

The illuminated "D" in the cover must turn off. The "+" and "-" must turn on.

The selector lever position display in the instrument cluster must change from "P R N D S" to "6 5 4 3 2 1" when the selector lever is moved into the Tiptronic gate.

Ignition and Lights Turned On:

The appropriate symbol is being lit up in the selector mechanism cover.

Transmission Range Display:

Simultaneous lighting of all segments of the transmission range selector lever display indicates transmission is in the emergency running mode.
