Selector Lever Cable, Adjusting
Special Tools And Workshop Equipment Required
- Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) V.A.G 1331
The selector lever cable must always be adjusted if:
- The selector lever cable was removed from the transmission.
- The engine and/or transmission were removed and installed.
- The engine and/or transmission mounts were removed and installed.
- The cable itself or the selector mechanism was removed and installed.
- Engine/transmission position changes, for example, were installed free of tension.
Adjusting
-- Move the selector lever into the "P" position.
Move the lever on the transmission into the "P" position.
The lever on the transmission must be pushed all the way to the rear.
-- Pull the lever forward.
-- Push the lever to the rear -arrow-.
"P" is in the second detent.
Make sure the transmission is in the "P" position (parking lock is engaged) if raising the vehicle. It must not be possible to turn the front wheels.
The transmission is also in the "P" position if the vehicle does not move with wheels spinning freely.
-- Install the cable with the loose adjusting bolt -arrow- and the new lock washers -A and B-.
-- Lightly tap the button on the selector handle forward and backward and make sure to keep handle in the "P" position.
This places the cable core in its optimal position.
-- Tighten the adjusting bolt -arrow- to 13 Nm.
This ends the adjustment.
