Transmission Fluid Level, Checking

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

• Vehicle Diagnostic Tester
• Adapter for Oil Filling VAS 6262 A
• Used Oil Collection and Extraction Unit SMN 372500

Note the following information: 

• Use only the transmission fluid available as a replacement part to fill.
• Adapter for Oil Filling VAS 6262/6 must also be used on some fluid container.

• It may be necessary to shorten the bleed pipe on the Adapter for Oil Filling VAS 6262 A. Refer to the following procedure.

Measure the length of the bleed pipe on the Adapter For Oil Filling VAS 6262 A. Shorten it if necessary.

-- Shorten the pipe to dimension -a-. This assures the pipe on the Adapter for Oil Filling VAS 6262 A will not touch the bottom on some oil containers.

• Dimension -a- = 210 mm

If dimension -a- is greater than 210 mm:

-- Make a mark on the bleed pipe, dimension -a-, and cut it, for example, with Pipe Cutter VAS 6056/2.

-- Clean the Adapter for Oil Filling VAS 6262 A.

Requirements

• The vehicle is level and all hoist supports are the same height.
• The noise insulation has been removed.
• is connected
• The ATF should not be warmer than 113 °F (45 °C) when starting the procedure.
• Test temperature: 95 °F - 113 °F (35 - 45 °C)

Checking

-- Vehicle Diagnostic Tester Connect and identify the vehicle in Guided Functions  .

-- Select DSG transmission  .

-- Select Check Fluid Level  .

The engine is idling and the selector lever is in "P".

-- Move the Used Oil Collection and Extraction Unit SMN 372500 or a Drip Tray under the transmission near the transmission fluid drain and check plug.

-- Remove the drain- and check plug -arrow-.

-- Always replace the seal for the drain plug -arrow-.

-- Let the excess oil drain.

-- Install the drain plug with a new seal as soon as all the fluid has drained out (it starts to drip).

-- If no transmission fluid comes out, then fill.

Adding

-- Install the Adapter For Oil Filling VAS 6262 A into the check hole hand-tight.

-- Shake before opening.

-- Attach the Adapter for Oil Filling VAS 6262 A to the oil bottle. Be sure to read the instructions TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL, CHECKING .

-- Fill 1.0 liters of transmission fluid.

-- Tighten Adapter for Oil Filling VAS 6262 to quick release coupling and check:

If ATF flows out of Adapter Hole:

Oil must not be topped off.

-- Let the excess oil drain.

-- As soon as the oil has run out (it begins to drip), remove the Adapter for Oil Filling VAS 6262 A and install screw with new seal.

If no oil flows out of hole:

-- Add another liter. Refer to TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL, CHECKING .

Insert the drain plug and check plug with a new seal and tighten them.

Tightening Specifications: 

• Drain and Check Plug. Refer to TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW .
