Selector Lever Cable, Through 02.09

NOTE:

Check the cable for ease of movement after installing it.

Removing 

-- Move the selector lever into the "S" position.

-- Disconnect the selector lever cable -1- from the cable bracket -2- and remove it.

Be careful not to bend the cable. Do not use pliers, otherwise the tabs on the cable bracket may break off.

-- Pry the cable -1- off the selector shaft lever -3- using a open end wrench -2-.

-- Lift the vehicle.

To remove the cable and/or the selector mechanism, remove the heat shield and, if necessary, any exhaust system components. Refer to EXHAUST SYSTEM COMPONENTS and REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

-- Remove the heat shield.

-- Remove the selector housing from under the selector mechanism.

-- Remove the retainer. Always replace the retainer.

The selector housing is pushed forward on the cable.

The retainer must be pushed forward in order to remove the cable -1-.

-- Push the pin upward at the same time with a screwdriver -2-.

-- Insert the screwdriver from underneath while pushing the retainer forward.

-- Remove the selector lever cable.

Remove the selector housing from the cable

Installing 

Do not grease the cable.

-- Route the selector lever cable so that it is free of tension and install it into cable bracket on the transmission but do not secure it yet.

-- When installing, make sure the selector lever cable is routed correctly.

-- Clip the selector lever cable into the bracket. Make sure that the bracket does not touch the transmission fluid cooler.

Nuts: 8 Nm

-- Mount the selector housing on the cable.

-- Install the selector lever cable into the selector mechanism.

-- Insert the cable into the bracket and then insert the pin through the eye from the top

Install the retainer only after having checked the cable for ease of movement. Refer to SELECTOR LEVER CABLE, CHECKING .

-- Secure the cable with a new retainer to the cable bracket on the selector mechanism.

-- Install the selector housing, the heat shield and the exhaust system.

-- Adjust the selector lever cable after installing. Refer to SELECTOR LEVER CABLE, CHECKING .
