Engine, Installing

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.

Installation is carried out in the reverse order while noting the following:

CAUTION:

When doing any repair work, especially in the engine compartment, pay attention to the following due to clearance issues:

  • Route all lines and wires in their original locations.
  • Ensure sufficient clearance to all moving or hot components.

-- When installing the engine/transmission subassembly make sure there is enough clearance to the subframe and radiator.

-- Align the engine mount as follows:

-- Tighten the engine mount to engine mount bracket bolts to 60 Nm + 90° (1/4) additional turn

-- Install the pendulum support.

NOTE:

For the pendulum support and transmission mount tightening specifications, refer to FASTENER TIGHTENING SPECIFICATIONS .

-- Attach the front exhaust pipe and catalytic converters to the exhaust manifold.

-- Install the drive axles. Refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Install the right drive axle heat shield.

-- Electrical connections and routing. Refer to Wiring .

-- Install the Air Conditioning (A/C) compressor. Refer to [For engine(s) BLV] Removal and Installation .

-- Install the fan shroud and fans.

-- If necessary, fill the transmission with fluid. Refer to General Information .

-- Connect the ventilation line -1-, the vacuum line -2- and the fuel supply line -3-.

-- Install the ribbed belt. Refer to RIBBED BELT .

-- Install the noise insulation. Refer to Description and Operation .

-- Fill the coolant. Refer to DRAINING AND FILLING .

-- Connect the vehicle diagnostic tester.

-- Check all Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memories and erase all DTC entries which may have occurred during the assembly.

-- Perform a test drive and generate the readiness code. Refer to "Guided Functions" in the vehicle diagnostic tester.

-- Then, perform a vehicle system test again and repair any reoccurring malfunctions.

NOTE:

Generate the readiness code if the DTC memory was erased. Refer to "Guided Functions" in the vehicle diagnostic tester.

Tightening Specifications 

Bolted connections Tightening Specifications
Bolts and Nuts M6 10 Nm
  M7 15 Nm
  M8 25 Nm
  M10 40 Nm
  M12 60 Nm
NOTE:

For the engine, transmission and pendulum support tightening specifications, refer to FASTENER TIGHTENING SPECIFICATIONS .
