Freeze Protection, Checking And Adding Coolant Additive

Special tools and workshop equipment required

NOTE:

Read the bright/ark boundary to obtain an accurate reading for the following tests. Place a drop of water on the glass to improve the readability of the bright/dark boundary. The bright/dark boundary can be clearly recognized on the "WATERLINE".

-- Check the concentration of the coolant additive using refractometer T10007 A (operating instructions).

The refractometer scale -1- is designed for coolant additives G12; G12 Plus, G12 Plus Plus and G11.

The scale -2- is designed only for coolant additive G13.

-- If freeze protection ratio is too low, drain listed amount and replace it with coolant additive G12 Plus conforming to TL "VW 774 G".

Mixture Ratio

CAUTION:

Use distilled water for mixing. Tap water and well water do not have the necessary quality to assure the functionality of the coolant.

Freeze protection to Coolant additive G12 Plus Plus Water, refer to "Use distilled water only" in item  1
-25 °C approximately 40 % approximately 60 %
-35 °C approximately 50 % approximately 50 %
-40 °C approximately 60 % approximately 40 %
  1. Use distilled water only.
NOTE:

Follow all waste disposal regulations!

-- Check the freeze protection after the road test.

Coolant Level, Checking and Filling

Check the coolant level in the reservoir when the engine is cold.

-- If coolant level is too low, fill with coolant mixture.

NOTE:

Small quantities of coolant can be refilled When larger quantities of coolant are needed when filling, Cooling system filling equipment VAS 6096 should be used.

Follow operating instructions for cooling system charge unit VAS 6096.

NOTE:

Determine cause of fluid loss, which cannot be attributed to normal use and repair.

Coolant Level, Checking and Filling

NOTE:

Coolant additive G12 Plus Plus prevents freezing and corrosion damage, scaling and also raises the boiling point of coolant. For these reasons, the cooling system must be filled with radiator freeze and corrosion protection fluid all year round.

Especially in countries with tropical climates or when vehicle is driven under heavy load, the coolant improves the engine reliability by its increased boiling point.

The coolant concentration must not be reduced by adding water, even during the warmer season. The coolant additive ratio must be at least 40%.
