Selector Mechanism

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

Removing 

-- Remove the selector lever handle. Refer to SELECTOR LEVER HANDLE .

-- Pull the pull-rod up and shift the selector lever to the "S" position.

-- The procedure for disconnecting the battery must absolutely be obeyed.

-- Disconnect the battery Ground (GND) cable with the ignition turned off. Refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Remove the center console. Refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Remove the noise insulation from the center console.

-- Release the connector -1- and disconnect it.

-- Remove the bolt -2- and remove the retainer.

-- Pull the connector -3- out from the retainer.

-- Disconnect the connector -1-.

-- Carefully pry up the retaining clips -2- from the frame on the left and right sides.

-- Pull the retaining clips -arrows- outward on the left and rights and remove the cover strip/frame upward.

-- Remove the bolt at the selector lever cable using T40031.

-- Remove the bolts -1- and remove the front retainer -2- for the selector mechanism.

-- Remove the rear retainer for the selector mechanism.

-- Pull the selector mechanism with selector lever cable slightly rearward.

-- Remove lock washer -2- from the selector lever cable -1- and pull the selector mechanism off from the selector lever cable.

Installing 

Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal. Pay attention to the following:

-- Install the selector lever cable -1- and secure using a new lock washer -2-.

-- Install the front and rear bolts for the selector mechanism -item 12- SELECTOR MECHANISM ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW => Bolt .

-- Route the wiring harnesses -1 through 3- as shown in the illustration.

Wiring harness to the shift lock solenoid -N110-

2 -

Wiring harness to the selector lever park position solenoid -N380-

3 -

Wiring harness to the Tiptronic switch -F189-

-- Press the connector -3- into the retainer.

-- Install the bolt -2-.

-- Connect the connector -1-.

-- Adjust the selector lever cable. Refer to SELECTOR LEVER CABLE, CHECKING AND ADJUSTING .

-- Install the center console. Refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Connect the battery. Refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Install the selector lever handle. Refer to SELECTOR LEVER HANDLE .
