Metal Glow Plugs, Checking

Hinged Socket 3320
Connector Test Set V.A.G 1594 C
Voltage Tester V.A.G 1527

Conditions

Battery voltage min. 11.5 volts
Ignition turned off

Sequence

-- Disconnect the connectors from glow plugs.

-- Connect the voltage tester cable to the battery positive terminal with clamps from the connector test kit.

-- Attach the test lead from the voltage test lamp to each glow plug in succession. Light Emitting Diode (LED) lights up: Glow plug OK. LED does not light up: Replace the glow plug.

-- Remove and install the glow plugs using the hinged Socket 3220: tightening specification: 15 Nm
