Update Instrument Cluster Maintenance Interval Programming

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION

The instrument cluster adaptation in affected vehicles causes the maintenance interval reminders to appear too soon.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Update the instrument cluster so that it indicates correct maintenance intervals.

ALLOCATION REPORT OF AFFECTED VEHICLES

In the Service Manager's Package, dealers with affected vehicles received a report containing the complete VIN with customer name and address data.

PARTS INFORMATION AND ALLOCATION

There were no parts allocated for this action.

OWNER NOTIFICATION MAILING

Volkswagen notified owners of affected vehicles directly by first-class mail beginning on or about April 3, 2009.

SERVICE ACTION EXPIRATION

This action is effective through April 5, 2010. Dealers should keep this expiration date in mind and schedule repairs accordingly. Claims with a repair date after April 5, 2010 will not be eligible for payment under this action, and claims will not be accepted for payment after April 20, 2010.

CLAIM ENTRY PROCEDURE

Immediately upon completion of the repair work, enter the Applicable Criteria ID and Repair Operation(s) from the chart below. The Applicable Criteria ID is shown in ElsaWeb. Claims will only be paid for vehicles that show this campaign open in ElsaWeb on the day of the repair  . To help ensure prompt and proper payment, attach the screen print to the repair order.

What Will Volkswagen Do? 

In order to correct and prevent the condition described above, we will update the instrument cluster maintenance interval programming in your vehicle.

What We Would Like You to Do 

Please contact your authorized Volkswagen dealer and arrange for an appointment at your convenience so this work can be performed. This update will typically take less than one half hour and, as mentioned above, will be free of charge. Please keep in mind that your dealer may need additional time for the preparation of the update, as well as to accommodate their daily workshop schedule.

Service Action Expiration Date 

This action is effective through April 5, 2010. After this date, dealers will not be able to perform this work for you free of charge.

Lease Vehicles 

If you are the lessor and registered owner of the vehicle identified in this letter, please forward this information via first class mail to the lessee.

Have You Changed Your Address Or Sold The Vehicle? 

If you have, please fill out the enclosed prepaid Owner Reply card and mail it to us so we can update our records.
