Test sequence

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2001 Volkswagen Jetta, 2001 Volkswagen Golf, 2001 Volkswagen GTI, 2000 Volkswagen Jetta, and 2000 Volkswagen Golf. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Connect scan tool VAG 1551 ((VAG 1552). Start engine and select "Address word" 01 of engine control module. Engine must be running at idling speed.

Press keys 0 and 8 for function "Read measured value block" and confirm entry with Q key.

Press keys 0, 1 and 4 for "Display group number 14" and confirm entry with Q key.

Check total number of misfires in display zone 3:

Specification: 0 -5

Check misfire recognition status in display zone 4:

Specification: activated

If the specifications are obtained:

Press key.
Press keys 0 and 6 for "End output" function and confirm input with Q key.
Switch off ignition.

If the specifications are not attained:

Check spark plugs and ignition/HT cables, see IGNITION SYSTEM COMPONENTS, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Check ignition coils with output stages, see IGNITION COILS WITH OUTPUT STAGE, CHECKING .
Check injectors, see INJECTORS, CHECKING .
