Selector Lever Cable, Adjusting
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Volkswagen Passat, 2007 Volkswagen Passat, and 2006 Volkswagen Passat. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) -V.A.G 1331-
The selector lever cable must be adjusted if:
- The selector lever cable was removed from the transmission.
- The engine and/or transmission were removed and installed.
- The cable itself or the selector mechanism was removed and installed.
- Engine/transmission position changes, for example, were installed free of tension.
Adjusting:
-- Move the selector lever into the "P" position.
-- Loosen the adjustment bolt -2- on the selector lever cable -1-.
-- Lightly tap the button in the handle forward and backward and make sure to keep the handle in the "P" position.
This locates the cable core in its optimal position.
-- Move the selector shaft lever -3- into the "P" position (push the lever to the rear).
NOTE:
Make sure the transmission is in "P" (parking lock is engaged) if raising the vehicle. It must not be possible to turn the front wheels.
-- Tighten the adjustment bolt -2- to 15 Nm.
