SERVICE

Service Sections:

  1. Prerequisites
  2. Replacement of Comfort System Central Control Module -J393-
  3. Additional Functions

PREREQUISITES

The Electronic Steering Column Lock Module -764- must be replaced along with the -J393- if ELV is an index "D"  or below. This only applies to MY 2006 & early MY 2007 vehicles. If this is applicable, refer to technical bulletin 2016689 . ELV can only be found in GFF fault log.

ELV is part number 3C0 905 861 + index. If a GFF fault log is unable to be obtained, this can be found by going directly in to Immobilizer via address word 25 using flash to pass to obtain "15 Power". This must be done with the original -J393-.

Tip:  ELV is a diagnostic term for ESCL.

NOTE: This information was previously explained in Technical Bulletin 2011776 .
  • VAS 5051 with Brand CD version 14.88.00 or higher. VAS 5052 may not  be used as the scan tool. This is due to the need to have an external power source for the scan tool. A 110V AC connection for the scan tool must be used as battery voltage is critical.
  • Internet connection within reach of the vehicle.
  • Retrieve, if possible, long coding of comfort system central control module -J393- and short coding of ABS control module -J104-.

Tip:  A long coding job aid can be found on ServiceNet  under Support  for additional information on how to retrieve coding.

NOTE: Prior to launching VAS-PC application and starting control module update process, confirm tester screen saver and power settings in accordance with Special Tools and Equipment - Service Information Document # VSE-08- 18. Failure to do so may result in the tester entering power save mode during data transfer, and subsequent control module failure.

REPLACEMENT OF COMFORT SYSTEM CENTRAL CONTROL MODULE -J393-

NOTE: Notify customer that all vehicle keys MUST be present for adaptation purposes.
  • Disconnecting scan tool during a test plan may result in comfort system central control module -J393- and/or -J764- failure. Replacement of failed components a second time will be dealer responsibility.
  • The battery must be tested using the Midtronics tester before the adaption process begins. A failed battery must be replaced before this procedure is performed.
  • Disconnect battery.
  • Replace Comfort Convenience Module. See Repair Manual Group 57 Front Doors, Central Locking System.
  • Connect battery.
  • Connect the Midtronics In-Charge 940 (INC-940) tester/charger to maintain voltage of 12.5V - 14.5V.

Tip:  Pull in and retain the turn signal lever (Flash to Pass). This initiates CanBus communication control module. Communication will be limited to the immobilizer at this time.

  • Select "Chassis -> Electrical System (Repair Group 01; 27; 90 to 97) -> 01 Systems capable of self-diagnosis -> Immobilizer -> Immobilizer functions -> Adapting anti-theft immobilizer".
