Engine, Installing
Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal, noting the following:
When doing any repair work, especially in the engine compartment, pay attention to the following due to clearance issues:
- Route lines of all types (for example: fuel, hydraulic, Evaporative Emission (EVAP), coolant, refrigerant, brake or vacuum) and electrical wires so that the original path is followed.
- To prevent damage to the lines, make sure there is sufficient clearance to all moving or hot components.
-- In vehicles with a Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) transmission, a pilot needle bearing must be installed in the crankshaft. Install the needle bearing, if necessary. Refer to CRANKSHAFT NEEDLE BEARINGS .
-- Lubricate the used needle bearing lightly using high temperature grease G 052 133 A2.
-- Make sure the alignment pins for the engine and transmission are installed in the cylinder block. Install if necessary.
-- When installing the engine/transmission assembly, check for clearance to the subframe as well as to the radiator.
-- Align the engine mount as follows:
- There must be a distance -a- of at least 10 mm present between the engine mount bracket -2- and the right longitudinal member.
- The casting edge on the engine mount bracket -2- must be parallel to the engine mount arm -1-.
-- Install the pendulum support.
Tightening specifications for the mounts. Refer to FASTENER TIGHTENING SPECIFICATIONS .
-- Install the drive axles. Refer to [For transmission(s) 0A4, 02E, 09G, 02Q] [For engine(s) BGP, BPY, AWP, BGQ, CBTA, CBUA, CCTA, CBFA] Removal and Installation .
-- Install the front driveshaft tube. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
-- Install the front exhaust pipe with catalytic converters. Refer to FRONT EXHAUST PIPE WITH CATALYTIC CONVERTERS .
Ensure the exhaust system is installed free of tension. Refer to EXHAUST SYSTEM, INSTALLING .
-- Install the shift mechanism to the transmission. Refer to (Through 02.09) SELECTOR MECHANISM OVERVIEW, THROUGH 02.09 , or (From 03.09) SELECTOR MECHANISM OVERVIEW, FROM 03.09 .
-- Electrical connections and routing. Refer to GENERAL INFORMATION .
-- Install the A/C compressor. Refer to [For engine(s) BGP, BPY, BGQ, CBTA, CBUA, CCTA, CBFA] Removal and Installation .
-- Install the ribbed belt. Refer to RIBBED BELT .
-- Reset the lock carrier service position. Refer to Description and Operation .
-- Install the noise insulation. Refer to Description and Operation .
-- Fill the cooling system. Refer to DRAINING AND FILLING .
-- Perform a vehicle system test. Refer to "Guided Fault Finding".
-- End the vehicle system test, this will automatically erase Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) entries which occurred during the assembly.
-- Generate a readiness code in connection with the road test.
Observe the safety precautions that apply to road tests.
-- Perform a test drive.
-- Then perform the vehicle system test again and repair any occurring malfunctions if necessary.
