Communication Interruptions Following Door Control Module Replacement
After replacement of the front door control modules, the gateway control module may not communicate with the newly installed door control module.
TECHNICAL BACKGROUND
Tip: Please also see parts bulletin 9-130 in ETKA under Infoline > Technology > GP Bulletins > (9-130) Procedure for communication interruptions following door control unit renewal during repair
Due to further technical development and releases, the latest generation door control units which are UDS diagnosis compatible are now available as service parts for the A5 Jetta and Jetta Wagon, replacing the previously installed KWP 2000 units. In individual cases, there may be communication problems with the newly installed door control unit during diagnosis and connection (coding, adaption, etc).
PRODUCTION SOLUTION
Vehicles no longer in production at time of publication.
SERVICE
Please check whether a corresponding KWP/UDS-compatible diagnosis interface (gateway) has already been installed in the vehicle. Older diagnosis interfaces (gateways) are only compatible with the KWP 2000 diagnosis. In order to ensure fault-free diagnosis and communication, it may be necessary to replace the diagnosis interface (gateway) with a KWP/UDS-compatible diagnosis interface (gateway). These can be found in ETKA.
Due to a hardware / software change between the KWP 2000 and UDS door control modules, the opposite door control module may also require replacement (e.g. if replacing the driver's side door control module, the passenger side door control module may also need to be replaced, along with the possibility of needing to replace the Gateway). Replacement parts are listed per VIN in ETKA.
Control Module Coding:
The door control modules will need to be long coded. In order to code the module you will need to start with the original coding for the door control module (found in GFF paperless if unable to read module). Using a programming calculator found in windows or on-line, select "programming" mode. Ensure "DEC" is selected. Enter the original coding and select "HEX" (example: 1205 > 4B5). It may be necessary to add "0's" to the front of the HEX code to complete the coding (example 00 04 B5).
Code the gateway control module using ODIS. Right click on address word 19 Gateway > select Control Module OBD > select Code Bus Master > select Perform. In the "Gateway List" you will see modules with a "?", select all of the modules and select "apply" in the lower right corner of the screen. Clear any stored DTCs and check operation.
