Fiber-optic cable between Navigation System with CD Drive Control Module and Front Information Display Control Head Control Module , replacing
Before starting repair work, perform the following:
- Switch off ignition and all electrical consumers and remove ignition key.
- Remove fiber-optic cable from replacement part packaging, do not pull protective caps off of fiber-optic cable harness connectors.
- Every 15 cm, affix both single lines of fiber-optic cable with commercial tape - arrow -.
This allows easier handling of fiber-optic cable when installing.
- Remove complete glove compartment, → 68 - INTERIOR EQUIPMENT
- Remove Front Information Display Control Head Control Module, → Front Information Display Control Head Control Module, removing and installing .
- Remove bolt - arrow - from right footwell trim.
- On both sides of faulty fiber-optic cable, cut off fiber-optic cable harness connector at points where fiber-optic cable passes into wiring harness of vehicle.
- Take firm wire of about 50 cm in length and 2 mm in diameter, for example welding wire.
- Bend a hook in end of one wire, as depicted in illustration. Distance between - arrows - is approx. 10 mm.
- Thread wire through opening for Front Information Display Control Head Control Module along wiring harness into right footwell.
- From right footwell, work hook of wire into empty center compartment - arrow - of straight harness connector of fiber-optic cable.
Wire must be inserted into harness connector - 1 - as follows:
- Using wire, carefully pull fiber-optic cable through center console to installation compartment for Front Information Display Control Head Control Module.

- Install fiber-optic cable above glove compartment, as depicted in illustration. Opening to Front Information Display Control Head Control Module in center console is located at - arrow - , attach fiber-optic cable at points - A - with cable ties.
NOTE:
- When installing fiber-optic cable, make sure it does not interfere with function of A/C control motors.
- Loop together any excess length of fiber-optic cable and affix with commercially available tape - arrows -. Leave about a 25 cm length of fiber-optic cable off of loop for path to Navigation System with CD Drive Control Module.

- Attach loop with cable ties at vent slots on top of glove compartment - arrows - and thread fiber-optic cable through opening into inside of glove compartment.
- Reinstall glove compartment, make sure fiber-optic cable lies in optimal position above glove compartment. Do not remove protective cap from fiber-optic cable until just before connecting harness connectors to Navigation System with CD Drive Control Module.
NOTE:
- When installing fiber-optic cable, make sure that it does not interfere with A/C control motors, that it is not kinked or sharply bent and does not cause rattling noises when installed.
- Reinstall Front Information Display Control Head Control Module. Do not remove protective cap from fiber-optic cable until just before connecting harness connectors to control module.
- Check and erase DTC memory using Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051 or Vehicle Diagnosis Service Syst. VAS 5052 to ensure proper operation of fiber-optic cable, → Checking and erasing DTC memory after replacing fiber-optic cable .
