DTC 01309 008 NO COMMUNICATION WITH J500 STORED IN INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND GATEWAY CONTROL MODULE

In some instances when DTC 01309 008 is stored in the Instrument cluster and Gateway control module it can be related to a wiring issue. Diagnose the suspected circuits using a voltage drop test.

The following have been identified as possible causes:

  • Poor ground contact on the left frame, below headlight
  • Poor power supply connection at the 80amp fuse of the underhood power distribution center
  • Poor connections, wiring damage (including CAN Bus wiring) due to rodent infestation
NOTE: If cause is not a manufacturer's defect, repair is not covered under warranty policy.

DTC 00578 008-TORQUE SENSOR IMPLAUSIBLE SIGNAL

  • Follow normal Guided Fault Finding diagnostics and replace steering rack IF or WHEN  prompted. Use applicable SRT for steering rack replacement.

DTCS 02614 014 OR 00003 014 STORED

DTC 00003 014 may occur without apparent reason, while DTC 02614 014 may occur after a battery replacement, a jump start of the vehicle or after a discharged battery. Both DTCs will not be erasable.

NOTE: The VAS 5051 or VAS 5052, up to Brand CD V.08.65.01, will recommend to replace the power steering rack for this DTC. REPLACEMENT OF THE POWER STEERING RACK IS NOT NECESSARY  . Instead of replacing the power steering rack the Brand CD V.08.65.01 (or newer) has the capability to program the following software update with flash CD W42STEERINGUPDATE.
  • 1K1 909 144 G software 1401 program to software 1403
  • 1K1 909 144 H software 1502 program to 1504
NOTE: Bulleted points listed above are for hardware and software identification ONLY and are not available through the parts system.

Hardware and software level's not listed are NOT EFFECTED by DTC 02614 014 and do not have to be reprogrammed.

UPDATE PROGRAMMING (FLASHING)

TIP:  Additional copies of the "Update - Programming" CD (Literature Number W42STEERINGUPDATE) may be ordered from the Volkswagen Technical Literature Ordering Center at www.ddsltd.com, or by calling 1-800-544-8021 from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. EST Monday through Friday. This number can be dialed in both the United States and Canada.

Vehicle Requirements

  • Battery MUST have minimum no-load charge of 12.5V (failure to maintain voltage during update process can lead to steering system module failure) (it is advised to use an approved battery charger to maintain battery voltage).
  • VAS 5051 or VAS 5052: connected to vehicle with battery voltage requirements met.
  • Any appliances with high electromagnetic radiation (i.e. mobile phones) switched OFF.

TIP:  Non-observance of the following points may lead to control module failure! VAS 5051 or 5052 must always be connected to the approved power supply at the approved voltages. Under no circumstances should the power supply be interrupted or the diagnostic connector unplugged during the flash procedure. Any appliances with high electromagnetic radiation (i.e. mobile phones) must be switched OFF.

  • Insert the C/D Part No: W42STEERINGUPDATE distributed with this technical bulletin.
  • Navigate to Vehicle Self Diagnosis AW 44-Steering assistance.
