No Start, Load Intervention Faults, Electrical Consumers Not Functioning Properly
Vehicle will not start under normal starting procedure (not emergency start procedure). Load intervention faults and electrical consumers not functioning properly.
TECHNICAL BACKGROUND
The Battery Manager Control Module -J367- may lose CAN communication and prevent the starter battery from being charged due to a software issue. This condition may also cause the On-Board accessory battery not to charge properly.
PRODUCTION SOLUTION
Tip:
As of VIN 3D_58001151, vehicles will be equipped with updated Battery Monitoring Control Module (software level 2700 or higher).
SERVICE
Procedure:
To check for proper software level, perform the following:
- Disconnect On-Board accessory battery (located on the left side of the trunk) terminal clamps, see repair manual Group 27, Battery, Starter, Generator, Cruise control, Battery, disconnecting and connecting in Elsaweb.
- Remove E-box above On-Board accessory battery, see repair manual Group 97 E-box in luggage compartment, left, removing and installing (Vehicles produced 05.03) or 97-2, E-box in luggage compartment, left, removing and installing (Vehicles produced 06.03) in Elsaweb to access Battery Monitoring Control Module -J367-.
- Remove On-Board accessory battery, see repair manual Group 27 - Battery, Starter, Generator, Cruise control, Battery, removing and installing in Elsaweb.
- Observe the part number label on the Battery Monitoring Control Module -J367-.
- To the right of the part number you will see the software level. If the software level is 2700 or higher, no further action required.
- If the software level is less than 2700, replace the Battery Monitoring Control Module -J367-. See repair manual Group 27 - Battery, Starter, Generator, Cruise control in Elsaweb, and continue with bulletin.
Tip:
If part number on package is different than the part number on the part label, this is acceptable as long as the software level is 2700 or higher.
When replacing the Battery Monitoring Control Module -J367-, tighten the ground strap to 6 Nm (53 in. lbs.).
- (Only to be performed if Battery Monitoring Control Module -J367- is replaced)
While the On-Board accessory battery is removed from the vehicle, use Midtronics InCharge 940 to test battery. Perform necessary action as instructed by Midtronics InCharge 940 before proceeding to next step.
Tip:
Midtronics test code must be included in warranty claim for battery charging or replacement, otherwise, the claim may be denied.
- Install On-Board accessory battery, see repair manual Group 27 - Battery, Starter, Generator, Cruise control in Elsaweb.
- Install E-box above On-Board accessory battery, see repair manual Group 97, E-box in luggage compartment, left, removing and installing (Vehicles produced 05.03) or 97-2, E-box in luggage compartment, left, removing and installing (Vehicles produced 06.03) in Elsaweb to access Battery Monitoring Control Module -J367-.
