Engine Control Module (ECM), replacing
Work procedure
Check control module identification of the previous Engine Control Module (ECM) as follows:
- Connect diagnostic tester. Refer to Diagnostic tester, connecting
- Switch ignition on.
- Under address word 33, select "Diagnostic mode 9: Vehicle information".
- Select vehicle information "Test-ID 04: Calibration Identification".
Control module identification will be displayed, e.g.:
3B0907551CG 0001
- End diagnosis and switch ignition off.
- Remove E-Box cover.
- Unclip retaining bracket for Engine Control Module (ECM).
- Disengage connector from control module and disconnect.
- Remove old control module and insert new one.
- Install connector for control module and engage.
- Clip in retaining bracket for Engine Control Module (ECM).
- Check whether the new control module identification matches the old control module identification.
NOTE:
- To achieve optimal anti-theft protection for the vehicle, an anti-theft immobilizer is installed. The anti-theft immobilizer is a system for enabling and locking the Engine Control Module (ECM).
- So that this system cannot be circumvented, it is necessary to perform adaptation of the anti-theft immobilizer using the Vehicle Diagnostic and Information System VAS 5052 in the On Board Diagnostic (OBD) function.
- The great availability of equipment options makes adaptation of the Engine Control Module (ECM) necessary (e.g. cruise control system). This "writing" function is not possible with the generic scan tool.
