Cd Changer -R41- In Center Console

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

The approved maintenance and installation work for the CD changers installed from 08.02, are described in the following.

The CD changer -1- is installed in the center console.

NOTE:

Always install the CD changer according to the following instructions.

If the CD changer only plays commercially available CDs but not CD-R's the CD changer is not defective. The CD changer may not be replaced for this reason.

Mixed CDs (data and music) will not play.

Removal 

Remove the storage compartment if no CD changer is installed:

-- Fold the center armrest all the way up.

-- Remove the storage compartment upward -arrows-.

The connection wire for the CD changer is visible from above when the armrest is open and the compartment is removed from the center console.

NOTE:

Prior to removal or installation of the CD changer, the harness connector for the preparation for the CD changer in the center console must be disconnected.

The harness connector for the CD changer is clipped into bracket -1- in the center console.

-- Remove the rear ashtray from the center console. Refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Remove the rear cover from the center console. Refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Remove the right side trim from the center console. Refer to Removal and Installation .

NOTE:

Pay attention to the installation position of the connector.

-- Disengage harness connector at points designated with -arrows- and disconnect it.

-- Disconnect connector -1- with retaining clip -3- from the bracket.

-- Insert the VAS 3316 into the provided slots on the left and right -arrows- on the CD changer until it engages audibly.

-- Remove the CD changer using the VAS 3316 -arrows-.

NOTE:

Do not tilt or bend the VAS 3316.

-- Squeeze the clips -arrow- and remove the VAS 3316.

Installation 

-- Position the CD changer vertically with the control buttons pointing toward the vehicle side -1- in the assembly frame and guide the harness connector to the bracket in the center console.

-- Connect connectors -1- and -2- and secure the harness connector with clip -3- on the bracket of the center console.

The further installation is performed in the reverse order.

Unit needs no coding. The components are automatically coordinated to one another.

-- Perform a function test and check all DTC memories using the Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051B.
