Generator Warning Light Does Not Illuminate With Ignition On

  1. Ensure belt tension and battery voltage are okay. Verify ground connection integrity between engine, body, battery and generator. Repair as necessary.
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Remove Blue wire connector (terminal 61) near starter, from securing clip. Using jumper wire, connect Blue wire, leading to warning lamp, to ground. If lamp lights up, go to step  6 . If lamp does not light up, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect battery ground strap. Replace generator warning lamp (LED). Reconnect battery ground strap. Switch ignition to ON position. If lamp lights up, system is operating correctly. If lamp does not light up, go to next step.
  4. Check open in fuse/relay panel between terminals F/3 and U2/12. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Using jumper wire, connect fuse/relay panel connector F/3 to ground. See Figure . If lamp lights up, check open in D+ wire from generator to fuse/relay panel F/3, and repair, as necessary. If lamp does not light up, go to next step.
  5. Using jumper wire, connect Blue wire leading to fuse/relay panel terminal U2/12 to ground. See Figure . If lamp lights up, replace fuse/relay panel. If lamp does not light up, check for an open in printed circuit. Check for an open in Blue wire between fuse/relay panel terminal U2/12, and instrument cluster connector T28. Repair wire, or replace printed circuit, as necessary.
  6. Reconnect Blue wire connector (near starter). Disconnect D+ wire (Blue) from generator, and connect to ground. If light does not light, repair Blue wire between generator and connector (near starter). If light lights up, go to next step.
  7. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Remove voltage regulator. Check brushes. See BRUSHES  under BENCH TESTING. If brushes are worn, replace brushes as necessary. If brushes are within specification, repair or replace generator.
