7-Digit Pin, General Information

NOTE: On Board Diagnostic programs of anti-theft immobilizer system are to be performed using the VAS 5051 Vehicle Diagnostic Testing and Information System.

In the event of Engine Control Module (ECM) or Immobilizer control module replacement or whenever ignition keys are adapted, a "secret number" must be entered into the immobilizer system. This number enables communication between the ECM and immobilizer control module.

The immobilizer secret number is encoded for increased security. The encoded number is 7-digits and is referred to as a "PIN" ("Personal Identification Number").

The PIN is only valid on the day it is requested. Thereafter, a new PIN is required. All models with anti-theft immobilizer are affected, regardless of generation.

NOTE: The 7-digit PIN must be requested from the "Warranty Information Network" (WIN) code retrieval system. WIN Administration requires the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), the Immobilizer ID number, the Dealer (number) and "Reason Code" (coded number which states the reason a PIN request is being made) in order to generate the 7-digit PIN.

The 7-digit PIN can only be processed and input as required by adaptation or PIN procedures by using the VAS 5051 with basis CD version 3.10 and higher. VAG 1551/1552 scan tools cannot be used. A correct Importer/Dealer number must reside in the VAS 5051 in order to request a PIN. The requested PIN is worthless to other Dealers.

CAUTION: Adaptation functions of the anti-theft immobilizer are not possible with incorrect data!
