Ignition Keys, Adaptation (Function 10)
- Insert mechanically appropriate ignition key into ignition lock.
- Connect VAS 5051 to DLC. See Figure . Switch on ignition. Select operating mode "Vehicle Self-Diagnosis".
- Select address word "25 - Immobilizer".
- Record 17-digit VIN and 14-digit Immobilizer ID number. Request 7-digit PIN from WIN system (must provide VIN and Immobilizer ID number). Select right arrow button to proceed.
- Select "Enabling (PIN)". Confirm notes.
- Enter 7-digit PIN using display keypad. Select right arrow button to proceed.
- Confirm PIN. If PIN is correct, confirm by selecting "yes". If PIN is incorrect, select "no" and repeat PIN entry.NOTE: When entering a 7-digit PIN beginning with "0", the "0" may not show on the confirmation screen. Example: PIN "0123456" may appear as "123456" on the PIN input confirmation screen.
- Confirm note. If display "Function is unknown or cannot be carried out at the moment" appears, repeat entry procedure.NOTE: Three attempts at entering secret number correctly are possible immediately. The next 3 attempts are not permitted for at least 10 minutes. During this time, ignition must remain switched on. On Board Diagnostic (OBD) must be also exited using the "End Output" function 06.NOTE: The wait period between each of the next 3 attempts doubles up to the maximum time of 255 minutes.NOTE: If the PIN is not recognized or accepted after repeated attempts, review information regarding application of 7-digit PIN and prerequisites concerning correct Dealer/Importer number and date/time settings in VAS 5051.
- Select "10 - Adaptation".
- Enter "0" and "1". Confirm entry by selecting "Q".
- Slide position indicator on display until total number of keys to be adapted is indicated. If the total number of keys to be adapted at this time is the same as that already indicated, the value must be changed and then entered again (reset).
- Select "Save" function. The key currently in the ignition lock is now adapted.
- Switch off ignition.
- Insert next key to be adapted in ignition lock and switch on ignition for at least one second. Repeat procedure until all keys have been adapted.
- Select "Check DTC Memory", function 02.
- If present, Erase DTC entries "Key programming incorrect, adaptation limit exceeded" using function 05.
- Check DTC Memory again.
- If there are no DTC's stored, then key adaptation was completed successfully.
- The adaptation of ignition keys is automatically terminated after 60 seconds. Time is not counted when ignition is switched off.
- All ignition keys adapted before termination remain valid.
- Following termination, it is not possible to re-adapt all ignition keys unless the "Adaptation" function is called up again.
- All ignition keys, including keys that were adapted before termination, must be re-adapted.
Adaptation of ignition keys is automatically terminated when:
- The number of keys to be adapted has been reached.
- The ignition is switched on using a key that is already adapted and remains switched on for more than one second (DTC stored).
- The allotted adaptation time of 60 seconds following adaptation of first key is exceeded (DTC stored).
