Glow plug system, checking: Notes
Only vehicles through model year → 2001
→ 28 IGNITION/GLOW PLUG SYSTEM
Vehicles from model year 2002 → VEHICLES FROM MODEL YEAR 2002 →
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
- Hand multimeter VAG1526A or Multimeter VAG1715
- Adapter set VAG1594
Test conditions
- The fuses must be OK.
- The battery voltage must be at least 11.5 V.
- Ignition switched off
- Diesel direct injection system Engine Control Module J248 OK.
Test sequence
- Pull connector off coolant temperature sender.
NOTE:
- Disconnecting the ECT sensor connector simulates a "cold" engine condition and turning on the ignition starts the glow plug process.
- Disconnect glow plug connector from glow plug.
- Switch on ignition.
- Connect multimeter VAG1526 to measure voltage between No. 1 cylinder glow plug connector and vehicle ground. Then between cylinder No. 3 glow plug connector and vehicle ground. Specification:
- Specification:
Battery voltage for approx. 20 seconds
- If no voltage is present: → Electrical Wiring Diagrams, Troubleshooting and Component Locations
- Check DTC memory, if necessary, repair any malfunctions and erase DTC memory → Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memory, checking and erasing .
- Display readiness code → Reading readiness code . If DTC memory has been erased, reset readiness code → Readiness code, setting .
