EuroVan 2.8L (Engine Code AXK)
- Verify battery voltage is a minimum of 11.5 volts and all fuses are okay. Repair as necessary. Go to next step.
- Disconnect grey 3-pin harness connector from Engine Speed sensor. See Fig 1 . Using DVOM measure resistance between terminals No. 2 and 3 of Engine Speed sensor. See Fig 2 . For EuroVan 2.8L with engine code (AXK), resistance should be 480-1000 ohms. Check for short circuit between Engine Speed sensor terminals No. 1 and 2. Check for short circuit between Engine Speed sensor terminals No. 1 and 3. If readings are okay, go to next step. If readings are not okay, replace faulty Engine Speed sensor. Verify repair. Test is complete.
- Disconnect ECM harness connector. Connect Test Box (VAG 1598/31) to ECM harness connector. See CONNECTING VAG TEST BOX
. Using DVOM, check resistance between the following Engine Speed sensor (G28) 3-pin harness connector terminals and test box sockets. See Figure
.
- Engine Speed sensor 3-pin harness connector terminal No. 1 and test box socket No. 108.
- Engine Speed sensor 3-pin harness connector terminal No. 2 and test box socket No. 90.
- Engine Speed sensor 3-pin harness connector terminal No. 3 and test box socket No. 82.
NOTE: There is a gap in sensor wheel. This gap is the reference mark. - Remove Engine Speed sensor. Ensure Engine Speed sensor wheel is secure on sensor shaft. Check Engine Speed sensor for excessive runout and damage. Repair or replace as necessary. Verify repair. Test is complete. If Engine Speed sensor harness connector circuits are okay, and Engine Speed sensor is okay. Replace faulty ECM. See ENGINE CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, erase DTC memory. Verify repair. Test is complete. Perform ECM relearn procedure. See TEST DRIVE RELEARN PROCEDURE .
