Glow plugs, checking

Recommended special tools and equipment 

• V.A.G1527 voltage test lamp
• V.A.G1594 connector test kit
• 3220 flex wrench

Requirements

• The respective fuses of Diesel-Direct fuel injection system must be OK:

Refer to Electrical Wiring Diagrams, Troubleshooting & Component Locations

• Battery voltage must be at least 11.5 volts.
• Ignition switched off

Test sequence 

• Disconnect glow plug connectors from glow plugs.

• Connect voltage test lamp wire to B+ using adapter clips from connector test kit.
• Attach test lead of voltage test lamp to each glow plug in succession.

LED lights up: Glow plug OK.

LED does not light up: Replace glow plug

• Remove and install glow plugs using 3220 flex wrench

Tightening torque: 15 Nm.
