Work sequence

Connect V.A.G 1551/1552 (Connecting scan tool and selecting engine electronics control module → Scan Tool V.A.G 1551 , connecting .)
Run engine at idle speed and press buttons - 0 - and - 1 - to select "Engine electronics" address word 01.

Rapid data transfer HELP
Select function XX

Press buttons - 0 - and - 4 - to select "Basic setting" function 04 and confirm entry with - Q - button.

Indicated on display

Basic setting HELP
Input display group number XXX

Press buttons - 0 - , - 0 - and - 4 - to select "Display group number 4" and confirm entry with - Q - button.

System in basic setting 4->
900 rpm adv. 7.9 ° BTDC 47 %

After approx. 10 seconds the spray adjuster is moved to the retarded (late) position.

900 rpm ret. 4.4 ° BTDC 32 %

Press → button
Press buttons - 0 - and - 6 - to select "End output" function 06 and confirm entry with - Q - button.
Switch ignition off.

If specifications are not obtained:

Disconnect 10-pin connector for cold start injector (connector to injection pump) - arrow -.

If specification is not obtained:

Replace Cold Start Injector N108.
Check DTC memory and, if necessary, repair any malfunctions and then erase → Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memory, checking and erasing .
Read readiness code → Readiness code, displaying .

If DTC memory has been erased, the readiness code must be generated again → Readiness code, setting .

If specification is obtained:

Connect test box V.A.G 1598/22 (through my 1999) or test box V.A.G 1598/31 (from my 2000) to control module wiring harness.

Check wiring between test box and 10-pin connector for open circuit according to wiring diagram.

If wiring and the resistance measurement values are OK, Replace engine control module → Diesel Direct Fuel Injection (DFI) Engine Control Module (ECM) J248 , replacing .
