Work sequence
- Connect Scan Tool V.A.G 1551/1552 → Scan Tool V.A.G 1551 , connecting .
- Start engine and let idle.
- Press - 0 - and - 1 - buttons to select address word 01: " Engine electronics".
- Press → button.

- Press buttons - 0 - and - 8 - for "Read measured value block" and confirm with - Q - button.

Vehicles with automatic transmission only:
Test drive and exceed a speed of 30 km/h (approx. 19 mph) once. Then switch off engine and leave selector lever in position 2, 3 or D.
Observe safety procedures during test drive → Safety precautions .
- Set parking brake.
NOTE:
- On vehicles with an automatic transmission CCS switch will not be supplied with voltage until vehicle speed exceeds 30 km/h (20 mp/h) and the selector lever is in position 2, 3 or D. Once the switch has been supplied with voltage it will also remain live at idle provided a forward gear is selected.
- Check CCS switch specification in display field 3.

- Switch off ignition.
If specifications are not obtained:
- Remove wiper arms and cowl panel: →92 WINDSHIELD WIPER & WASHER SYSTEM
- Connect test box V.A.G 1598/22 (through my 1999) or test box V.A.G 1598/31 (from my 2000) to control module wiring harness.
- Check wiring from Engine Control Module (ECM) to CCS operating switch for open/short circuits: → Electrical Wiring Diagrams, Troubleshooting and Component Locations
- Check DTC memory, if necessary, repair any malfunctions and erase DTC memory → Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memory, checking and erasing .
- Display readiness code → Readiness code, displaying . If DTC memory has been erased, reset readiness code → Readiness code, setting .
