Model Year 1998, Installing

The approved maintenance and installation work for the CD changers installed in MY 98, are described in the following.

NOTE:

Prior to installation, observe the following assembly instructions.

Always install the CD changer according to the following instructions.

Installation location: Inside the luggage compartment on the left side in the rear, directly behind the folding rear seat backrest.

The preparation for the CD changer (wiring harness and harness connector) is visible on the inside left of the luggage compartment.

Installing the Bracket 

-- Remove the luggage compartment floor.

-- Pay attention to the position of the three assembly holes for the bracket of the CD changer -arrows-.

Depending on the version, two wiring harnesses can be used for the CD changer.

Version 1 

Harness connector -1- and the wiring harness are clipped into the left side part of the luggage compartment -arrow-.

-- Remove the clip -arrow- and bend the harness connector back.

Version 2 

The harness connector and wiring harness are clipped into the cover.

-- Unclip the cover and disconnect the connector.

A marking (CD) -arrow- is located on the back of the luggage compartment floor.

-- Cut the marked area -arrow- out.

-- Place the luggage compartment floor back in the luggage compartment.

-- Screw the CD changer -1- bracket via screws -2- to the floor.

Adjusting The CD Changer Installation Position 

-- Check whether both adjusting levers -arrow- on the CD changer are in the V (vertical) position.

NOTE:

In the case of an incorrect adjustment, the CD changer skips.

-- If a readjustment is necessary, loosen the securing screws, move the adjusting lever up to the V position, and tighten the screws.

Installing 

-- Screw side bracket -1- with screws -2- onto the CD changer.

-- Connect the harness connectors and clip the harness connector into the bracket -arrow-.

-- Insert the CD changer in the bracket and guide the wire under the CD changer to the harness connector -arrow-.

-- Install the cover for CD changer -1- and ensure that the tips under the cover engage in the grooves on the bracket for the CD changer -arrow-.

-- Swivel cover -1- to CD changer -2-.

-- Secure the cover with two screws.

-- Code the radio to operate with the CD changer. Refer to RADIO COMPONENTS, ADAPTING .

NOTE:

Malfunction recognition for the radio/CD changer does not work if the radio is not coded for CD operation.
