Read Measuring Value Block

NOTE: If there is a specific complaint and NO malfunctions are recognized after checking DTC memory, carry out "Read measuring value block."

Use this function to observe status of communication between control modules via the Powertrain CAN Bus. The measuring value block is divided into 2 display groups, each containing 4 display fields.

  1. Connect scan tool. See CONNECTING SCAN TOOL (VAG 1551)  .
  2. Select operating mode 1 "Rapid data transfer."
  3. Switch on ignition.
  4. Enter address word 17 "instrument cluster."
  5. Press "Q" button to confirm input.
  6. Press right arrow button until "Select function" is displayed.
  7. Press buttons "0" and "8" to select "Read Measuring Value Block" function 08.
  8. Press "Q" button to confirm input.
  9. Using the scan tool button pad, enter the required display group number.
  10. Indicated on the display will be will be the numbers (1 through 4) of the display fields. With the printer switched on, the information on the display is printed out. To easily change between display groups proceed according to Fig 1 .

  11. To go back and select a different display group by number, press "C" button and then enter the next display group. See Fig 1 .
NOTE: Display fields always show actual values transmitted from senders and sensors. However, instrument cluster display values can differ from those in the display fields due to internal filtering.
NOTE: Other display groups are possible, but are not required.

Display fields in display groups 125 and 126 provide CAN-Bus function status codes of various control modules connected to the "Powertrain" CAN-Bus network. If a vehicle is not equipped with control module(s) listed in the following display groups, the applicable display field remains blank. Check correct coding of CAN-Bus On Board Diagnostic Interface (J533). See CODING GATEWAY  .

NOTE: Display field content differs between VDO and MMO instrument clusters!
