Description & Operation

NOTE: On models equipped with A/C, cooling fan(s) will turn on when A/C switch is in ON position or temperature exceeds coolant preset temperature. On models with out A/C, cooling fan in controlled by thermal switches in radiator. To determine coolant control application, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
NOTE: If detonation is a problem, cooling fan may not operate at proper temperature, causing engine to overheat.

Cooling fan is controlled by a 2-stage coolant fan control thermoswitch. Thermoswitch is located in left-side radiator tank, and is connected in series with coolant fan control module and radiator cooling fan motor. Coolant fan control module is located in left side of engine compartment. Appropriate cooling fan motor speed is determined by engine coolant temperature and A/C system operation (if equipped).

Models with 2.8L engines are equipped with an auxiliary after-run electric coolant pump. Pump is operated by thermoswitch mounted in thermostat housing. Radiator cooling fan is also operated in after-run mode.
