Checking DTC Memory:

• Start engine and let idle.
• Press PRINT button to switch the printer on (indicator lamp in button lights up).
• Press button -1- for "Rapid data transfer" mode.
• Press button -0- twice to enter address word 00 for "Automatic Test Sequence."
• Press -Q- button to confirm input.

VAG 1551 displays all known address words in sequence.

If the control module answers with its identification, the number of stored Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) will be indicated or "No DTC recognized" will be displayed.

If one or more DTCs are stored, the stored Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) will be displayed and printed out in sequence. Following this, VAG 1551 displays the next address word.

• The automatic test sequence is ended once the readout shown here appears in the display:

  * Operating modes 1 and 2 are displayed alternately.

• Switch ignition OFF.

If DTCs are stored, a repair is necessary.

The diagnostic report should be attached to the repair order.
