DTC 00513/2111: Engine Speed Sensor
- Press keys "0" and "6" on scan tool to select function 06 END DATA TRANSFER. Confirm by pressing "Q" key. Turn ignition off. Ensure engine speed sensor is secure and wiring to sensor is not damaged. Remove sensor and check for metal particles or other damage. Check for cracked, loose or damaged sensor wheel. Repair as necessary. If no damage is found, go to next step.
- Ensure engine speed sensor is secure and wiring is not damaged. Repair as necessary. If engine speed sensor and wiring appear okay, disconnect engine speed sensor connector. See Fig 1 . Measure resistance between connector terminals No. 1 and 2. If about 1-1.5 k/ohms are present, go to next step. If about 1-1.5 k/ohms are not present, replace engine speed sensor.
- Connect Adapter (VAG 1598/18) to ECM wiring harness. Measure resistance between adapter terminals and speed sensor terminals. See SPEED SENSOR WIRING CHECK table. If resistance is 1.5 ohms or less, replace DFI ECM. If resistance is greater than 1.5 ohms, check wiring for a short circuit between terminals. Repair as necessary.
