Using Malfunction Indicator Light

  1. Turn ignition on. Press accelerator pedal from closed throttle position to wide open throttle 5 times within 5 seconds. Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) should come on for 2.5 seconds and then go out for 2.5 seconds.
  2. If a DTC is stored, MIL will blink in groups of flashes. Each MIL DTC consists of 4 groups of flashes with a maximum of 4 flashes for each digit. A number between one and 4 is achieved by adding individual flashes within each group.
  3. For example, DTC 2111 is displayed as flash, flash, short pause, flash, short pause, flash, short pause, flash. After a 2.5 second pause, MIL DTC is repeated until next MIL DTC is requested.
  4. To request next MIL DTC, press accelerator pedal from closed throttle position to wide open throttle five times within 5 seconds. Next MIL DTC is displayed.
  5. Continue with sequence until MIL comes on steady for 2.5 seconds, indicating end of DTC output. Refer to DTC IDENTIFICATION TABLE  under DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) IDENTIFICATION to translate DTC to a system or affected circuit description and possible cause and repair.
NOTE: See ENTERING SELF-DIAGNOSTICS  for additional scan tool operating instructions.
