DTC P0440/16824: EVAP System Malfunction
NOTE:
ECM sets DTC if it senses an Evaporative (EVAP) canister purge regulator valve malfunction.
- Start and run engine at idle until it reaches normal operating temperature. When EVAP canister purge regulator valve is activated, squeeze hose to intake manifold with fingers. If pulsing is present, system is okay. If pulsing is not present, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Connect Test Box (VAG 1598/18). Disconnect EVAP canister purge regulator valve. Measure resistance between EVAP canister purge regulator valve connector terminal No. 1 and test box terminal No. 31, then between EVAP canister purge regulator valve connector terminal No. 2 and upper terminal at fuse No. 18. If less than 1.5 ohms are present for both tests, replace EVAP canister purge regulator valve. If greater than 1.5 ohms are present for both tests, check wiring for an open circuit. Repair as necessary.
