SERVICE INFORMATION

The following article contains new information regarding Airbag Control Module coding after replacement.

This information will be integrated with the next Repair Manual update.

AIRBAG CONTROL MODULE -J234-, CODING USING VAG 1551 SCAN TOOL (ONLY WHEN INSTALLING A NEW CONTROL MODULE)

- Connect VAG 1551 Scan Tool.

- Switch ignition on.

The Airbag Malfunction Indicator (MIL) Lamp -K75- lights up continuously.

- Press button -1- for "Rapid data transfer" mode.

Display will show the following:

- Press buttons -1- and -5- (to insert address word 15 for "Airbag").

- Confirm entry with -Q- button.

- Press --> button.

- Press buttons -0- and -7- (to insert function 07 "Code control module").

- Confirm entry with -Q- button.

- Enter code number (vehicle specific e.g. 00071)

- Confirm entry with -Q- button.

Display will show the following (The control module identification number with the relevant index letter, code number and workshop code is displayed.):

If the contents of the display are as described then the coding is successful.

If the control module code number entered is not accepted then the following will be displayed:

In this case, the control module has not been correctly programmed with the relevant data for the vehicle. Coding is no longer possible. The airbag MIL -K75- will not go out and stays lit continuously.

- Check that airbag control module of correct part number has been installed (compare part number identification and index letter) or whether incorrect code number has been entered.

Ending function:

- Press --> button.
