Cleanliness Rules & Safety Precautions
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
When working on he fuel supply/injection system, pay careful attention to the following rules:
- Thoroughly clean all unions and adjacent areas before disconnecting
- Place parts that have been removed on a clean surface and cover. Do not use fluffy cloths!
- Carefully cover opened components or seal, if the repair cannot be performed immediately
- Only install clean components
- Do not use parts that have been stored loose (e.g. in tool boxes)
- Only unpack replacement parts immediately prior to installation
- When system is open, do not use compressed air if it can be avoided, and do not move vehicle unless absolutely necessary
- Ensure that Diesel fuel does NOT contact the coolant hoses, If necessary, hoses that have made contact with Diesel fuel must be cleaned immediately. Contaminated hoses must be replaced.
When removing and installing the fuel gauge sender from a full or partially full fuel tank, observe the following precautions:
- Before starting the work, switch on exhaust extraction system and place an extraction hose close to the sender opening in the fuel tank to draw off escaping fuel fumes.
- If no extraction system is available, a radial fan (as long as motor is not in air flow) with a displacement greater than 15 m3 /h can be used.
- Prevent skin contact with fuel! Wear fuel-resistant gloves.
