Fuel Injector Check

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1997 Volkswagen Passat. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. To check for defective fuel injector, start engine and allow it to idle. Loosen high-pressure fuel line banjo bolt at first fuel injector and listen for decrease in engine speed (RPM). Re-tighten bolt to 18 ft. lbs. (25 N.m). Repeat procedure for each fuel injector.
  2. If fuel injector is operating properly, engine RPM should decrease when high-pressure fuel line banjo bolt is loosened. If a faulty fuel injector is suspected, check fuel injector and circuit. See FUEL INJECTORS & CIRCUITS under FUEL SYSTEM in I - SYSTEM/COMPONENT TESTS - 1.9L article.
