Multi-Function Indicator
The Multi-Funktions-Anzeige (MFA) or multi-function indicator is an integral part of the instrument cluster and consists of an electronic control unit and a digital display unit.
Electrical signals from sensors and control modules are fed into the electronic control unit, processed and stored in memory. The MFA contains two selectable memories. Memory 1 is for single trip; memory 2 if for total trip. The two memories collect all driving data as long as ignition is on. If memory capacity is exceeded, memory is cancelled and the calculations start over again.
The MFA mode select switch and MFA memory select switch are located in the wiper/washer lever. When ignition is off, the MFA display window shows time. With ignition on, the time remains in the display window until the MFA mode switch is pressed. As switch is pressed, different functions appear one after the other:
- Time
- Driving Time
- Average Fuel Consumption
- Average Speed
- Engine Oil Temperature
- Outside Air Temperature
When ignition is on, the sensor values for driving time, distance and fuel consumption are recorded continuously and stored. The calculation of the average speed and average fuel consumption only takes place when the function is called up.
