Scan Tool Connecting

VAG 1551 Scan Tool (ST), connecting (starting 1994 m.y.)

Starting with 1994 m.y. Golf III, Jetta III, and Cabrio vehicles are equipped with a 16-pin Data Link Connector (DLC).

This connector is used for access to the vehicle's On Board Diagnostic (OBD) systems using the VAG 1551 Scan Tool (ST).

Test Requirements:

Battery Positive Voltage (B+) OK
Fuse 22 (S22) OK
Ground (GND) connections on engine and transmission OK (location: below lower part of intake manifold)

For access to the Data Link Connector (DLC):






- Remove front ashtray.
- Slide small cover to the left -arrow-.
- With ignition switched OFF, connect VAG 1551/3 adapter harness between Data Link Connector (DLC) and VAG 1551 Scan Tool (ST).
