Wheel Alignment Procedures: Notes

NOTE:
While limited information is available, vehicle manufacturer does not support alignment information using aftermarket alignment equipment. To properly align vehicle, it is recommended to use VAG 1813 alignment computer. All procedures in this article are written using VAG 1813 alignment computer.
When performing wheel alignment procedures, observe following work sequence:
- Using appropriate adapters connect VAG 1813 wheel alignment computer or equivalent to vehicle. Alignment is to always include both front and rear axles.
- Check wheels for excessive lateral runout or out-of-balance condition. Balance or repair wheels as necessary.
- Ride height and vehicle longitudinal tilt influence the test values. Therefore these MUST be measured or the standing height must be adjusted before checking/adjusting wheel alignment angles. See RIDE HEIGHT & LONGITUDINAL TILT .
- The actual load condition at the time of alignment is a deciding factor for the application of the specified values (empty, 1/2 net load, full load). Ensure that wheel alignment specifications are those that closest match load condition of vehicle.
- After driving the vehicle onto the alignment stand in a pointed angle, drive vehicle forward and backward several times in order to prevent tension in the bonded rubber bushings.
- Check front axle camber. Adjust as necessary.
- Check front axle toe. Adjust as necessary.
- Check front axle caster. Adjust as necessary.
- Check rear axle toe. Adjust as necessary.
- If suspension adjustments were changed, and vehicle is equipped with Electronic Stability Program (ESP), zeroing of steering angle sensor must be performed. For zero position of steering angle sensor procedure, see FUNCTION 04 - BASIC SETTING in appropriate ANTI-LOCK BRAKES article in BRAKES.
