Compression Check: Testing and Inspection

SPECIAL TOOLS, TESTERS AND AUXILIARY ITEMS
^ Compression Tester tool No. US 1110, or equivalent.
^ Adaptor tool No. VAG 1381/2A, or equivalent.
^ Box Wrench No. 3035, or equivalent.

TEST CONDITIONS
- Engine oil temperature 30°C (86°F) minimum.

TEST SEQUENCE
- Disconnect wiring from engine stop on injection pump, insulate and lay to one side

- Remove injection lines using 3035 tubing wrench

- Remove all fuel injectors and at same time, remove all heat shields





- Thread in VAG 1323/2A adaptor in place of the fuel injectors. Insert old heat shield between adaptor and cylinder head

- Hand thread US 1110 into the compression tester adapter

NOTE: For compression tester usage, see manufacturers operating instructions.

- Operate starter until tester shows no further increase in pressure

Compression Pressure
New: 34 bar
Wear limit: 26 bar
Permissible difference between all cylinders 5 bar

NOTE: Always replace the heat shield seals fitted between the cylinder head and the fuel injectors.





- Heat shield installed position, arrow points to cylinder head

Tightening torques:
Fuel injector lines 25 Nm (18 ft lb)
Fuel injectors 70 Nm (52 ft lb)
