Throttle Full Close Switch: Testing and Inspection

Closed Throttle Position (CTP) Switch, checking/adjusting

Checking

Note:
^ The CTP switch gap can only be checked and adjusted when the plunger is fully retracted.
^ Use VAG 1655 adapter to retract the plunger.
^ The adapter reduces the Battery Positive Voltage (B+) by about 6 Volts.

- Switch ignition OFF.

- Disconnect CTP Switch.

- Connect VAG 1655 adapter to CPT switch and Battery Positive Voltage (B+).

- Touch adapter wire (-) to Ground (GND) until plunger -arrow- is fully retracted.

Note: The Throttle Body has no Ground (GND) connection.

- Push plunger in by hand to stop.

- Check gap -a- with feeler gauge and adjust if necessary using screw -1-.
^ Checking value 0.40-0.50 mm (0.016-0.020 in.)
^ Adjusting value 0.50 mm (0.020 in.)

Operation, checking

- Switch multimeter to resistance range -Ohm-.

CAUTION! Switch multimeter to the appropriate measuring range before connecting the test leads to avoid damaging the electronic components.

- Connect lower terminals of CTP switch using jumper wires from VW 1594 adapter kit.

Resistance:
^ Feeler gauge NOT inserted: infinite Ohms
^ Feeler gauge inserted: 200 Ohms maximum
