Air Temperature Sensor ( Ambient / Intake ): Testing and Inspection

CHECKING INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE (IAT) SENSOR

Procedure
- Connect VAG 1551 Scan Tool (ST).
- Switch ON ignition.
- Select function 08 "Read measurement block".

- Remove IAT sensor (G42), but do not disconnect from harness connector.
- Note IAT value displayed in channel 3.
- Spray IAT sensor with commercial cooling spray and observe temperature value on Scan Tool.

NOTE: Temperature value must drop.

- Press --> button.
- Press 0 and 6 buttons to select function 06 "end data transfer".
- Press Q button to enter input.
- If the temperature value does NOT change:

- Perform electrical testing. Refer to Diagnostic Charts / Electrical Test Steps (ECM Pinout) / Test Steps 12 and/or 29. Testing and Inspection
- If necessary, replace IAT sensor (G42).
